As Vervet monkeys are a protected species there are very few deterrents that can be used to avoid contact with them on and in private spaces.
Open doors and windows are their usual entry points, and these can be fitted with screens (both fixed and sliding) to prevent access.
Water is the only other effective preventative measure as they do not like to be soaked.
Other legal measures such as plastic snakes procure limited success as the monkeys soon suss out that the threat is not real.
Whilst these measures plus non-legal options do prevent invasions to some degree, monkeys are by their very nature serial raiders and soon return to open decks, patios, vegetable/fruit gardens as well as public spaces where food is either served or consumed.
The foregoing can only be limited via an ultrasound intervention (despite some claiming that the technology is harmful to a whole range of wildlife which is totally unfounded) that discourages Vervet monkeys from raiding protected zones .
Takes up to 2 weeks to get them to decide to move on but in a totally harmless manner but they will return at far longer intervals just to let you know they know what you are up to - give you a fist pump and scurry away!
